Herman McKinney

Herman McKinney, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away on August 22, 2023, at the Montefiore St. Luke’s-Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh; at the age of 88. He was born in Inman, South Carolina, on August 14, 1935, son of the late Johnny and Marie (Jones) McKinney.

On May 12, 1956, he married Ida V. Oglesby, who sadly predeceased him after 59 years of marriage on July 7, 2015. Herman was also pre-deceased by a son, Clyde McKinney, husband of Tina McKinney.

Herman owned and operated H. McKinney & Sons Septic Services in Beacon for many years until he retired and turned the business over to his son. Herman also owned a bar and restaurant with his wife.

Herman is survived by his three sons and one daughter: Cleo McKinney and his wife Faith McKinney, Clifton McKinney and his wife Gloria, Timothy McKinney and his wife Crystal, Kimberly Hunter and her husband Christopher. Herman raised two nephews and a foster son: Glenn Smith, husband of Christine Smith, Franklin Tisby (deceased) and Calvin Figgures, husband of Sharon Figgures. Herman is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His family and friends will gather on Tuesday, August 29th from 12-3pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, where a service will be offered at 2PM.
