Cynthia Nalton Libby

Cynthia Nalton Libby, a longtime Beacon resident passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on April 12, 2021; she was 84-years old. She was born on January 6, 1937 in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Herbert & Helen (Olds) Nalton. On July 16, 1960 at the St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse, NY, Cindy married Harrison S. Libby; they were married for 55-years until he predeceased her on November 3, 2015. Cindy received her Registered Nurse degree at the University of Rochester and worked at Southside Hospital in Bayshore, NY and Highland Hospital in Beacon until her retirement in late 1980s. Cindy was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds. She was known for the best Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas cookies. She loved all things Christmas; the music, her mantle, the lights, the sweaters, the Christmas tree, and spending time with her family. Cindy loved spending as much time as possible with her friends and family and often hosted gatherings and dinners at her home in Beacon. She was a longtime member of the Melzingah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Beacon, NY. She was also very active alongside Harrison in the Southern Dutchess and Beacon communities and their family business at Libby Funeral Home. She was very patriotic and was proud of her husband and his service to the U.S. Army. Cindy was a former active communicant of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Beacon, serving on various church committees with her husband. Cindy is survived by her daughter Sue Libby Van Ness of Summerville, SC; her three granddaughters: Amy Van Ness and her husband Dan Forde (Southborough, MA), Mallory Van Ness (Brighton, MA) and Libby Van Ness (Summerville, SC); her son-in-law Charles Van Ness of Chemung, NY. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Kingsepp Ring of Clarkston, MI; her nephew Jont (Ellen) Kingsepp (Deerfield, IL); her niece Molly (Mike) Pattison (Aurora, CO); lifelong friend Julie Richards (Beacon, NY). Along with her husband Harrison, she was predeceased by her son Thomas N. Libby, her grandson Sean Libby Van Ness, and her sister Patricia Nalton. Her Family will receive Friends on Monday, April 19th from 4-8pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon. The Funeral Service will be held in-person for immediate family & close-friends only, on Tuesday, April 20th The Rev/Dr. Edwin Cromey, family-friend will officiate. Service will be livestreamed. In light of the recent pandemic occurrence and accordance with NYS Regulations; social distancing is required, capacity is limited, masks must be worn while gathered at the funeral home. Interment will be private the follow day at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY; where she will be laid to rest with her husband and grandson. Arrangements were under the direction of her friends Matthew Fiorillo and Joseph Schuka of Libby Funeral Home, Beacon.
