Constantina 'Connie' Belekis

December 28, 1930 — April 19, 2021

‘Connie' Constantina Belekis, 90, a longtime Beacon resident, entered peacefully into eternal rest on April 19, 2021. She was born on December 28, 1930 in Karpasi, Limnos, Greece, daughter of the late Kyriakos Vakirtzis and Adamantia Zervou. She emigrated from Greece in 1957 to and worked in a button factory in Manhattan for a few years until moving to Beacon, NY. She worked for over 30 years as a dietary aide at the Craig House Rehabilitation Hospital in Beacon, until she retired when she was 70 years old. Connie was a faithful communicant of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, always volunteering her time and skills. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was known for her famous greek meatballs. Connie loved her Greek heritage dearly and teaching the traditions she has known to everyone around her. She loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren. On June 15, 1958 in Astoria, NY, she married George Belekis, who survives her at home. Along with her husband of 62 years of marriage, Connie is survived by her son Charles Belekis of Miami, FL., and daughter Nia (Rick) LaBonte of Salt Point, NY; her two grandchildren, Joseph LaBonte and Melissa LaBonte. She is also survived by two sisters Triandafilio Hatziergati and Fotini Vakirtzis both of White Plains, NY. She was predeceased by her son Evangelos ‘Chris' Belekis of January 18, 2014, and her brother Panagiotis Vakirtzis in April 2017. Connie was the most loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend and was truly a trailblazer, shaping the lives of her family for the better. You could never leave her house without a smile on your face and a stomach full of food, with bags full of food to take home, too. She will be so missed. Funeral Services will be held privately for immediate family only at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Newburgh which will be followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Connie's memory to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 2004, Newburgh, NY 12550.
