Ruth D. Gallagher

Ruth D. Gallagher, 89, a nearly life-long resident of Beacon, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2020, at her home in Beacon. She was born July 8, 1931, in Newburgh, NY, daughter of the late Raymond D. and Matilda (Volk) Johnson. Ruth attended Beacon City Schools, and graduated from Beacon High School in the Class of 1949. Ruth married James A. Gallagher of Beacon, January 7, 1951. James predeceased her on May 18, 2016 after 65-years of marriage. As a young woman Ruth worked in Grants Department Store in Beacon. After raising her four children, Ruth worked for several years as a teacher's aide at the Newburgh Developmental Learning Center in New Windsor, NY. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Linda Manto and husband Joseph of Bay Shore, NY, and Karen Kreppein and husband Robert of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her sons, James and wife Cynthia of Wilmington, NC, and Robert of Beacon, NY; and her brother Raymond Johnson and wife Colette of Wappingers Falls, NY. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren Brendan McLaughlin, and Ryan and Erin Gallagher, and several nieces and nephews. The family will hold a private service, after which Ruth will be buried with her husband Jim at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
