Patricia Joan Fox

October 13, 1928 — December 13, 2020

Patricia Fox of Beacon, New York passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 92; following complications from a fall at her home earlier in the day. Patricia Joan Fox was born in Chicago to Adolph and Cecile Silvers on Oct 13, 1928. Her father named his ice cream store "Princess Pat" and she worked there after school. As a 16 year old student journalist, Pat scored an interview with the great Benny Goodman. She remained a lifelong jazz fan. Kind and empathetic, Pat joined CORE (Congress Of Racial Equality) and worked to end restaurant segregation in 1940s Chicago. Pat moved to Manhattan to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress; she performed under the stage name Pat Sherwood. Working at Longchamps restaurant in the theater district, Pat met Jonathan Fox. They married, had three children and moved to Ardsley, NY. There the city girl learned to drive (!) and was a kind, funny, loving mother. She pursued her theater interest with The Fort Hill Players in White Plains beginning in 1972, volunteering backstage when not acting. Pat and Jon separated in 1975 and thereafter Pat treasured her independence. Even at 92 Pat was living on her own, cooking and taking care of herself until the day she fell. She retired from Thompson/West publishing in Mt. Kisco in 1996. Pat loved travel, visiting China and all over Europe. She was an expert at the New York Times crossword puzzle, Scrabble and Sudoku. Always wanting to learn more and give more to others who needed help, she saw her three children all obtain advanced degrees. Pat joined the County Players when she moved to Beacon to be near her daughter. Although further from the City, Pat maintained subscriptions to many Broadway theaters and was a regular until the rigors of the trip were too much. Pat loved Beacon and the Hudson Valley. She was a great listener, funny and smart and much loved. Pat is survived by Vicki Fox of Beacon, Chris Fox of Chappaqua and Douglas Fox of Santa Cruz, California, and by grandchildren Dylan, Natalie and Alexa. Rest In Peace, Mom. A Graveside Service will be held 1pm, Friday, December 18th at the Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
