Ollie Porter

September 16, 1939 — January 19, 2011

Ollie J. Porter was born September 16, 1939 in Grassland, Virginia to the late Oscar and Marlena Murphy. She was educated in the Virginia schools. She relocated to Beacon, New York in 1961 where she met and married the late Edward Lee Porter Sr. She was employed at Tesa Tuck Tape for many years until she retired in 1998. She has been a member of Springfield Baptist Church since moving to Beacon; serving on the Adult Usher Ministry. She also visited faithfully the sick and shut-ins at Wingate Nursing Home in Beacon. Ollie Porter was predeceased by her mother Marlena Murphy and her brother Thomas Murphy. She leaves to cherish her memories seven children. Marion (Homer) Groover of Beacon, New York; Madeline (Rogelio) Nonnon of Dumfries, Virginia; Aletha (Gerald) Williams of Buffalo, New York; Janice Jones (Timothy) and Edward Porter of Alexandria, Virginia; Della Porter of Newark, Delaware; and Andrew (Beverly) Porter of Tampa, Florida. Twenty-Two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters Sarah Murphy of Orange, Virginia and Thelma Stewart of Florida. Her favorite aunt Cora Box of Newark, New Jersey. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 29,2011 at Springfield Baptist Church, Mattie Cooper Sq. Beacon, NY from 9:00am to 11:00am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Rev. Ronald O. Perry will officiate. Interment following the services will take place Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.
