Lonnie Reed

Lonnie Reed, 88, a life-long Beacon resident and recently of Poughkeepsie, passed away on January 15, 2021 at The Grand River Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing in Poughkeepsie. He was born on January 19, 1932 in Beacon, NY, son of the late Benjamin Lee & Lillie Mae (Spigner) Reed. Lonnie enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955; and received an honorable discharge for his service. Lonnie worked for 25-years in housekeeping maintenance at the VA Hudson Valley Hospital Castle Point Campus, until he retired. Later he worked another 20-years at the Fishkill Health Related Center in Beacon; and he also worked for a few years at the Keyfood Grocery Store in Beacon until he was 76 years old. His hobbies include his love of listening to jazz music and big band; he was a fan of boxing and baseball, especially his NY Yankees. He will be remembered as a devoted father and loving grandfather & great-grandfather. Lonnie leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters: Jacqueline Reed and Sandra (Darriell) Dorsey, and his special granddaughter who was more of a daughter, Teresa Wright; also his 7 grandchildren: Adrian Wright, Shahneese Williams, Rhushan Cusick, Alfred Cusick Jr., Tamika Moore, Samuel Parker and Rahsheeda Looby; and a host of other great-grands and even great-great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews. His 2 brothers and 1 sister also survive him: Willie Lee Reed, Michael Reed and Dorothy Headspeth. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Virginia Parker. His Family & Friends will gather for viewing on Friday, January 22nd from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, where a service of prayer & reflections will be held 12pm, followed by interment and military honors at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.
