Leonard Cardillo

March 18, 1948 — June 17, 2019

Leonard J Cardillo, age 71, passed away on June 17th after a courageous fight with uveal cancer. Len was born March 18th, 1948 in White Plains, N.Y. to Joseph L. Cardillo and Angelina (nee) Grimaldi. He was long-time resident of Tarrytown, N.Y. and is survived by his wife and best friend, Rosanne (Breitbach) Cardillo from Independence, Iowa, whom he cherished and spent his life's adventures for 46 years. Len was the oldest of eight surviving siblings: Kenneth Cardillo and his wife Paulette, Carol Cardillo Skolas, Mary Lou Castellano and her husband Kenneth; Joseph L Cardillo, Jr. and his wife Megan; Richard Cardillo and his husband Joel Greenhouse; Annie Holden and her husband Ed; Betsy Evans and her husband Peter and Paul Cardillo and his wife Rachel. He was a cherished uncle to 19 nieces and nephews and 13 grand nieces and nephews and 5 great grand nieces and nephews. Len was recently employed at eMagin in Hopewell Junction as a design engineer. This was the last position in a career that encompassed many areas of advanced technologies where he had a passion for the challenges of the unknown. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in N.Y.C. and received his bachelor of science at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He attended Iowa State University where he received a master's degree and was a PhD candidate at the New School of Social Research in New York City. Throughout his life he would continue his love for learning and would further his knowledge in other areas of study. Len's life was filled with his love for music, especially when he played his guitar. He loved the outdoors, camping, and swimming in the ocean. His love for laughter and giving joy filled the numerous times he shared with his family and friends. His nieces and nephews will fondly remember his gift of reading to them, investigating and talking about the wonders of the universe, accompanying them in song, and making the best meatballs in the world! He will be especially remembered by many for his intelligence and his giving heart and will surely be missed by all those that have crossed his path in his lifetime. A Memorial Celebration of his very well-lived Life will be held on July 20, 2019 at his home. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY 12508.
