Kirk Ziska

February 25, 1997 — June 21, 2019

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Kirk Francis Ziska announces his sudden passing on June 21, 2019, while at a family gathering in Newburgh, New York. Kirk, age 22, was born on February 25, 1997, in Clinton, Maryland. Kirk grew up in Dunkirk, Maryland, where he continued to reside. Kirk had a passion for music and enjoyed an eclectic array of musical genres. Kirk liked attending concerts and spent many dedicated hours learning to play instruments including the trumpet and the drums. Kirk was a 2014 graduate of Southern High School in Anne Arundel County. Kirk participated in the school's marching band, as well as in numerous school and community band events. In addition to Kirk's appreciation for music, Kirk was a scholar with a knack for numbers who loved the challenge of complex problems. Kirk was a member of his high school's National Honor Society. His affinity for manipulating numbers and variables also earned him a spot in his high school's math club. During high school, Kirk worked at Herrington on the Bay as part of the catering staff. Kirk attended the University of Maryland, College Park. He later became a nationally certified Emergency Medical Technician and worked at AAA Transport. Most recently, Kirk was working as an EMT while taking classes at Anne Arundel Community College where he was working toward a degree in computer science. Most importantly, Kirk will be remembered by his loving family and devoted friends as a sweet and compassionate soul who cared deeply for those he held close to his heart. He will be greatly missed, but the many joyful moments spent with Kirk, his clever commentary, and the many smiles that he shared with those who knew him will be infinitely treasured and cherished. Kirk is survived by his parents Mark and Nicolette Ziska of Dunkirk, MD; his sister Alexandra Ziska-Younes and brother-in-law Jason Younes of New Windsor, NY; his Aunt Deborah Ziska of Washington, DC, and his grandmother Marlene Holden of Alexandria, VA. He is also lovingly remembered by his girlfriend, Haven, of Glen Burnie, MD, and his close friends and extended family. To honor Kirk, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Greenstreet Gardens in Lothian, MD. The celebration will be from 5 – 8 pm. Memories and reflections will be shared by loved ones beginning at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the music program at Southern High School: 4400 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD 20776. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY 12508 845-831-0179.
