Helen Washington, 81 of Kingston, NY entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Highland, NY. She was the wife of the late George H. Washington, Sr., with whom she shared 51 years of marriage prior to his death in 1998. Born in Glasco, NY on April 23, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Cora Poag Miller. Helen was employed by E&G Rotron until an injury forced her to stop. She has been a foster mother to many children since 1969 who still affectionately regard her as ‘Ma’ and she referred to as sons and daughters. For several years she was also a care giver for adults from Hudson River Psychiatric Center. She received Christ into her life at an early age and was an active member of Riverview Baptist Church in Kingston, NY until 1997. She then joined Bethel Church of God In Christ in Poughkeepsie, NY where she served faithfully on the Mother’s Board and as a member of the Pastor’s Aide until her illness. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, George H. (Cecelia) Washington, Jr. and Kasseem Washington of Kingston, NY, five grandchildren; Shawn Washington of Glasco, NY, Monique Washington and Tasha Taylor of Kingston, NY, Isis Washington of Albany, NY, and Tiffany Hicks of Minneapolis, MN., fourteen great-grandchildren, four nieces; Mary Jo (Eddie) Harris and Stephanie (Reggie) Smith of NC, Yvonne (Brian) Stanley of MD and Katherine Simmons of Delaware, brother in law; Leroy (Agnes) Washington, and sister in law; Audrey (Donald) VanDemark, dear friend and cousin, Hattie Mae Washington and beloved sister in law; Elsie Colden, all of Kingston, NY, one god-daughter; Vanessa Lawhorn of Albany. She also leaves a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Simmons and Margaret Harden Martin. Visitation will be held Friday March, 16, 2012 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Riverview Baptist Church 240 Catherine St. Kingston, NY, where Services will follow.
