George Pratt

George Pratt, a resident of Beacon since 2003 and formerly of Plano, TX, passed peacefully on October 23, 2022 at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Staatsburg, NY; he was 90 years old. He was born on June 17, 1932 in Jamaica, Queens, NY, son of the late George D. & Christina (McChesney) Pratt. He was raised in New Hyde Park, and as an adult moved to Floral Park and later Brookville, both on LI, NY before relocating to Plano, TX in 1981.

George served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954 and received an honorable charge for his service. Upon his discharge, he was able to attend Hofstra University while on the GI Bill where he graduated with a Bachelor of Finance degree. During his tenure at Hofstra he played lacrosse, a sport for which he carried a lifelong passion.

He was very involved in the local government in the Village of Floral Park, serving as a Trustee in the late 1960s. George worked in New York City for the first part of his career first as a reporter for Standard & Poors.  He then accepted a position at Clark, Dodge as an analyst in the technology sector before becoming President of the Diebold Venture Capital from 1968-1974. George later moved to Plano, TX where he was CEO of Computer Automation Inc and served on various of Board of Directors until his retirement.

George was a member of the Southern Dutchess Country Club, where enjoyed playing golf through his late 70’s.  At 80, he became a member of Gold’s Gym in Fishkill, where he worked out each weekday until he was 87 years old.

George is survived by his three children: Scott Pratt, Linda Pratt Kimmel, and Cameron (Amy) Pratt; his two grandsons Griffin and Bennett Pratt. He is also survived by his former wife, Marney Pratt.

George was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (Gardiner) Pratt in 1972; his son Glen Pratt in 2018; and his brother John Pratt in 2015.
