Edward William Vetter, 77, formerly of Mahopac, NY and recent years of Florida, passed away on January 20, 2021 in Florida. He was born on October 16, 1943 in New York, NY, son of the late Carl & Bertha (Schmidt) Vetter.
Edward served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from May 1, 1962 to March 30, 1964, and received an honorable discharge for his service.
Ed worked as a transit police officer for the New York City Police Department from 1967 to 1983, until he retired; he thoroughly enjoyed all the Police Benevolent Association activities. Ed was also an avid NY Rangers fan.
On October 25, 1987 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, NY, he married Margaret ‘Peggy’ Engberg, who survives him at home.
Along with his wife of 33-years Peggy Vetter, Edward is survived by his four children Elizabeth Vetter-Smith and her husband Keith; Joseph Manente and his wife Kathy; Sil Manente and his wife Debbie; Nicole Moreno and her husband William. He also leaves behind his 9 grandchildren whom he cherished: Ashley, Alexa, Anna, Edward, Payton, William, Gia, Zoe and Liam.
Along with his parents, Edward was predeceased by his two brothers, Carl Vetter and Robert Vetter.
A Private Celebration of Life with Military Honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard will be held at the Beacon Elks Lodge.
