Clarence 'Sgt' J. Silver

Montrose, NY; formerly of Bronx, NY

Clarence J. Silver, a resident of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Veterans Hospital in Montrose, NY for the last year, formerly of the Bronx, NY, was Called Home to rest on March 13, 2022; he was 87 years old. Affectionately known to many of his family & friends as “Sgt”. He was born in Newport News, Virginia on December 11, 1934, son of the late Rev. Amos Silver and Josephine (Brown) Silver.

Clarence “Sgt” proudly served in the United States Army from September 25, 1950 to January 15, 1974; he was a Staff Sergeant upon his honorable discharge for 24-years of service to the country.

“Sgt” enjoyed working with the local VFW organizations, advocating on behalf of ALL Veterans rights and benefits. He also worked very close with the NAACP, advocating on behalf of The Civil Rights movement.

Clarence “Sgt” is survived by his beloved daughter, Patricia McGlothin of Temple, TX; his brother Clayton Silver of Buffalo, NY and his sister Alberta Maldonado of North Carolina. His three grandchildren: Ticobra Burleson of Dallas, TX; Iisha and Cedric of Merced, CA. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces & nephews

Along with his parents, Clarence “Sgt” was predeceased by her daughter Marie Mcentire; and his two-brothers, Carson Silver Sr and Charles Silver.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, NY. Services will be private at the discretion and convenience of his family.
