Alfred Thomas

Thomas, Alfred William, 87 of Glenham, N.Y. entered into rest on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the VA Medical Center, Castle Point. Born July 18, 1928, in Jamica Plains, MA., he was the son of Thomas Alfred and Rose Dickens Thomas. He married the love of his life Marion Elizabeth Smith on Nov. 6, 1950, who survives at home. In 1950 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When he returned he went to work for IBM graduating from the the first Tool & Dye Maker class that IBM had put together. He went on to work in that trade for 35 more years before retiring. He also was employed as a part time Butcher for the A&P Supermarket in Beacon. He was a member of Dutchess Divers Org. for many years, and a member of Beacon Boat Club, where he loved sailing his Hobie Cat on the Hudson River, and at his summer place on Cape Cod, MA., he spent every August at his treasured cottage with his family which was the joy of his life. He was an avid Big Band Dancer and could be found on any dance floor with his only partner Marion. In addition to his wife survivors include, his daughters Robin Thomas (Richard Runion) of Beacon, Wendy Conley (Alfred) of Jackson, NJ, his son Keith Thomas (Dawn VanBrink) of Chelsea, NY., Grandchildren, Jessica Williams (Dan), Seth Conley (Kimberly), Jeremiah French, Ryan Thomas (Sarah), Dylan Conley (Destiny), Pvt. John Keller Jr., Sara Thomas and 5 great grandchildren, his brother Walter (Ann) Thomas and his sister Elizabeth Hughes (Don). He was predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Gerald. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. 55 Teller Ave. Beacon, NY. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 11, at 1:00 PM at Libby Funeral Home, Inc. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Beacon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Castle Point VA Medical Center 100 New York 9D Castle Point, NY 12511 or Cleveland Clinic Heart Center 9500 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44195 Arrangements are under the direction of Jarett D.
