Roosevelt Bishop

Roosevelt Mason Bishop was born in Lunenburg County, VA on Saturday, November 4, 1922 and departed this earthly life on Sunday, April ‘5, 2020 to join his Heavenly Father. He had been a long-term resident of the Department of Veterans Affair Healthcare facility in Montrose, New York. Roosevelt Bishop was the son of the late Alexander Bishop, Sr. and Rebecca Johnson Bishop.

Roosevelt Bishop was also preceded in death by his sister Emma Bishop Showell and brothers Alexander Hamilton Bishop, Richard, Thomas Berkley Bishop and Louis Donald Bishop.
He served in the United States Army from June 22, 1943 to January 29, 1946 and was honorably discharged. While residing in the Montrose, New York, Roosevelt Bishop enjoyed the occasional visits from his siblings and other relatives.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Mary Bishop (Thomas), nephews Thomas Bishop, Jr (Carole), Richard Bishop and nieces Bertha Bishop Evans, Ethel Bishop Woodson (Anthony), Brenda Bishop Jones (Joseph), Sandra Bishop Ceruti and a host of relatives and friends.

“In light of the recent worldwide occurrences coping with the outbreak of COVID-19, the family of Roosevelt Mason Bishop wishes to temporarily postpone for a memorial gathering for a later date & time; at which time they will have a Memorial Graveside Service with Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard for Roosevelt’s service during World War II.’ Roosevelt was taken for burial and laid to rest at the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton Long Island, NY
